  • IHSM Presidential Nominee – Unopposed

    Noeleen Nelson
I am honored to have been nominated for the position as President for the board. Since becoming a charter member of the Irish Heritage Society of Milford, I have had the opportunity to promote Irish culture through various roles that I have immersed myself in. I am one of the founders of The Tara Theatre Company and to date we have produced 15 Irish plays that provide our dedicated audiences with a glimpse of Irish humor, songs, and drama.

I am a proud past president of Slainte which is our non-profit charitable organization which provides scholarships for students and donates to local charities. Our fundraisers have proved hugely beneficial for our recipients and also for our supporters who have enjoyed a wide variety of performances with several of the artists being of Irish descent.
I have been a proud supporter of the Irish Festival and each September have volunteered in whatever capacity was needed from assisting with the raffles and bartending at the beer tent. I am currently a bar manager for the club and also serve as a volunteer bartender on a regular basis.
As previously stated I feel humbled to have been selected as one of the nominees for the upcoming board and have learned a great deal about the board as Vice President the past two years. When elected President, I will continue to work to the best of my ability to promote Irish culture, to assist the board to the best of my ability and most importantly be mindful that I am a representative for all members of the Irish Heritage Society of Milford.
    Go Raibh Mile Maith Agat

  • IHSM Vice Presidential Nominees

    Patrice Dunn
I am honored to be nominated as Vice President! I have been active in the club since joining in 2015. I have volunteered on the committee that fundraises and purchases Christmas gifts for needy families as well as helping with the yearly Holiday Craft Fair. I have volunteered at the Irish festivals helping at the various committee tables, setting up, serving at the beer tent, checking IDs and for the past two years I have co-chaired the committee for the Food Trucks. I have served beer at the IHSM tent at the Oyster Festival. I am presently a bar manager and one of the regular bartenders.
For the past three years, I have purchased supplies for the bar and club. I volunteered on the parade and St Patrick’s Day committees, marched in the parade carrying a flag and arranged for the food trucks at the club. I have performed in seven plays with Tara Theater since 2015. I reignited the Garden Club and help the committee maintain the triangular plot in town along with the window boxes at the club. For two years before COVID I organized the off-site monthly Happy Hours. I served on the board for two years as Parliamentarian and headed a sub-committee that helped refine some of the by-laws. I am currently serving on Slainte. I was Volunteer of the Month for July 2019.
I am a retired Special Educator. My career spanned 40 years! I loved my job, the children and my colleagues. Although I highly recommend retirement, I do miss those “Ironman moments” I shared working with children with special needs and their families!
Again, I am honored to be nominated to serve on the board as Vice President. If elected, I will serve the IHSM community to the best of my ability.

  • IHSM Treasurer Nominee – Unopposed

    Scott Willey
I am honored to be nominated for the position of Treasurer for the 2023-2024 term.
I have been an IHSM member since 2014. While I always volunteer at the Irish Festival
and the Oyster Festival, and I have made many great friends in the IHSM, work demands had previously kept me from getting as involved as I would have liked. I have recently “semi-retired,” and I would like to invest some of my newly found free time in contributing to the IHSM. Given my background in accounting and finance, I believe that serving as Treasurer is where I can add the most value.
My qualifications for the position of Treasurer are:
 Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from UConn (Go Huskies!).
     Certified Public Accountant.
 Extensive experience as a Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Controller for
    several large corporations.
 Experience as Treasurer of non-profit organizations, including Milford
International Little League, Foran High Booster Club, and several local political
    campaigns.
I currently serve as coach of the Foran High School girls tennis team, and I also work
part-time as a consultant for several companies. I am a life-long Milford resident and have been married to my wife Cathleen (Murphy) for 38 years. We have 4 children and 2 grandchildren.

I have been active in Tara Theater since 2016, first acting and then directing. I have volunteered for events such as the Irish Festival, Oyster Festival, membership renewal drive, and cornhole and golf tournaments. I have 2 grown children, 1 grandson, and a granddaughter on the way!

    Sarah Sugrue
Hi everyone! I am excited to be nominated and running for the position of parliamentarian for the 2024 IHSM board. In 2015, I was crowned Miss Emerald Isle for the Milford Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, where it all started! I was first a member that year under my parent’s family membership and then joined on my own when I was of age. Since 2015, I have been involved primarily in parade events and fundraisers. Over the last few years since Marty’s death, I have become a critical part of the parade committee, as well as the chair of the Miss Emerald Isle Committee, which is, as we all know, a favorite part for many who attend the parade. Since taking on this role, we have attended many other fundraisers for the IHSM, including the Easter Egg hunts, children’s tea parties, golf tournaments, and more. Over the past year, I also started a tea party to promote Miss Emerald Isle and share our heritage with all the younger generations. I would love to use this nomination and position to further the sharing and education of our heritage.

A little bit more about me, I am a ballerina and have been dancing since I was two years old, as well as teaching to little ones aged 2-5 years old. I am a student at the University of New Haven, finishing my master’s in Criminal Justice and a graduate certificate in Forensic Mental Health. I have my bachelor’s degree in Forensic Psychology as well. Aside from teaching dance, I also work on an animal therapy farm in Prospect, CT, that specializes in working with children in foster care and wards of the state with learning disabilities and psychological disorders.

Again, I am very honored and excited about this nomination, and I look forward to growing with the IHSM and looking toward the future.

    Thanks,
    Sarah
